|
Community Outreach and education are key to helping in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS. Birmingham Group Health Services offers a variety of HIV/AIDS education and outreach programs that can be adapted to address audiences of all ages, and ethnic, religious, and socio-economic groups. Below are just a few of our current program offerings. Naugatuck Valley H.O.P.E. (HIV Outreach, Prevention, Education) Campaign This project is a collaborative effort of Birmingham Group Health Services, Naugatuck Valley Health District and the American Red Cross – Lower Naugatuck Valley Chapter. The primary goal of the project is to educate the general population in the Naugatuck Valley region about the risk factors associated with HIV/ AIDS and the resources available for testing, risk reduction, and prevention skills building. Community presentations and HIV education sessions are available through this project. Ryan White Title I Outreach This program component has as its principal purpose to reach individuals who have been previously diagnosed with HIV disease, and who have fallen out of care, to help them become enrolled in services. Outreach services are targeted to populations known through local epidemiological data to be at disproportionate risk for falling out of HIV care. These activities are conducted at times and places where there is a high probability that HIV-infected individuals will be reached. The goal of re-engaging persons living with HIV and AIDS is accomplished through non-traditional methods. Active support groups are available on site.
