Birmingham Group Health Services, Inc. (BGHS), a non-profit, CommuniCare organization, licensed by the Department of Public Health, is a pioneer in providing innovative, exceptional behavioral healthcare through quality services and programs that focus on, and respect, the consumer. BGHS receives funding from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, The Department of Social Services, and the Ryan White Title 1 Program, as well as philanthropic organizations such as The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, The Katharine Matthies Foundation, and the Valley United Way. With over 25 years of experience in behavioral healthcare, a dedicated staff, committed volunteers, and undying devotion to mission, BGHS is a leader in helping our community become a healthier place to live, work, and raise a family Our Mission... The mission of Birmingham Group Health Services, Inc. is to provide quality services which focus on the recovery and well being of individuals and the health of the community. These outcome-based, cost-effective services include mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, and HIV/AIDS services for Connecticut's Lower Naugatuck Valley and surrounding communities. These culturally competent services provide prevention, education, advocacy, rehabilitation, and treatment delivered through an informed community, strong partnerships, and progressive leadership. Our History... What started out as the Valley Mental Health Center has blossomed into something larger - a key component of the Lower Naugatuck Valley's overall healthcare system, and a major resource for the community. Since it was created in 1979, the organization has moved from providing solely mental healthcare services to offering domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, and substance abuse services as well. The further addition of the Birmingham Foundation has enabled BGHS to move forward a progressive plan to sustain the organization on its own, and ensure that people who cannot afford care still get the help they deserve. Our Vision... Birmingham Group Health Services,Inc. will continue to be the foremost healthcare provider in the state, specializing in mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, rehabilitation, prevention, and family services. We will continue to be highly accessible, customer-driven, cost-effective, efficient, outcome-based, and integrated with other health systems. We will maintain leadership in our communities and continue to work with partners to provide the highest quality services. |
