  Peer Support Groups

Birmingham Group Health Services' (BGHS) commitment to a recovery-oriented system of care and holistic approach to treatment have inspired the creation of peer support groups which are developed and led by consumers of BGHS.  Research suggests that peers helping peers are an important factor in recovery success.  Peer-led support groups facilitate supportive peer relationships and empower consumers to become active participants in their treatment plans.

The following peer-led support groups are currently being offered at BGHS:

Community Warmline:  A support program that provides a free telephone number for persons in recovery to call when they need support, a chat, or just a friendly and understanding ear to talk to.  (Click here for more information about The Warmline.)

Schizophrenics Anonymous (S.A.) - A self-help support group for persons recovering from Schizophrenia or a Schizophrenia related illness. (Click here for more information about S.A.)

Emotions Anonymous - A support group for persons wishing to make changes in the way he/she deals with emotions.
