No non-profit
organization can succeed without a dedicated group of community volunteers
to assist staff, plan a strategic direction, and keep the agency in touch
and in tune with its surrounding community. Birmingham Group Health
Services is blessed to have an incredibly dedicated set of volunteers
working with us at every turn. Read about our volunteer opportunities
below or fill out our electronic volunteer form to get involved in helping
your community and those in need!
Board
Support
Birmingham
Group Health Services is extremely grateful to the many community and
corporate members who donate their time and expertise to our fundraising,
committee, and oversight boards. Diversity and fresh ideas continue to
help us grow and change with the times, so we are always looking for new
individuals to become board volunteers. Please contact us if you are
interested in volunteering for any of the following:

Compeer
Persons with
mental illness are often also affected by the loneliness and isolation that
often accompany these diseases. The
Compeer Program helps to combat this by
pairing volunteers with Birmingham Group Health Services' consumers to spend
time together developing supportive friendships. Compeer volunteers
are trained and then matched with a consumer who has similar interests.
Once a match has been made, Compeer volunteers spend four hour per month
with their match, participating in a mutually agreeable activity.
Compeer volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of our consumers
simply by being a friend.
Valley
Social Club
BGHS is always
looking for volunteers to share their time and expertise with members of our
Valley Social Club. Opportunities are available for guest speakers,
workshops or other "how to" instructional presenters (such as computer
instruction, and arts & crafts), and entertainers. For more
information about the Valley Social Club,

General
Volunteering
There are many
levels of volunteering opportunities at BGHS from board positions to lending
a hand at My Sister's Place, to participating in short-term fundraising
projects or sitting on committees. Volunteers are also needed to help
with everything from babysitting client's children while they are in therapy
sessions to providing employee training and/or computer technical support to
the organization. Please contact BGHS' Development Department at
203/736-2601, ext. 360 today to see how you can join our volunteer team!
