Birmingham Group Health Services' Valley Substance Abuse Action Council (VSAAC) is a public/private partnership comprised of community leaders and citizens who develop and carry out strategies to reduce alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use in the five communities (Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton) which the agency serves.

VSAAC has always understood that there are two sides to the substance abuse issue - the private battles waged every day by families and individuals, and the larger issues that are best addressed through public policy. By working hand-in-hand with the community, VSAAC has opened the door for education and prevention of substance abuse in an innovative and collaborative effort that continues to change and save lives.

VSAAC offers a variety of interactive workshops and presentations for youth and adults, as well as resource materials, curriculums, training programs, referrals, and other information about drug abuse, alcohol, and tobacco that can help parents, children, and the larger community become better aware and equipped to combat the intrusion of these harmful substances in our daily lives.

Please, take a moment to browse through our web pages, learn more about our programs and our mission, and how you can help make our children and our community substance abuse free!
