VSAAC Curriculum & Resource Center

Since 1990, VSAAC has been extremely active as an information and referral resource for the Valley and surrounding communities regarding alcohol, tobacco, and substance abuse issues.

In addition to developing our own curriculums, interactive presentations, workshops, videos, public service announcements, educational booklets, brochures, and fliers concerning the dangers of substance abuse and how the community can work together to overcome the odds, VSAAC has also compiled a listing of outside resources, and national and local organizations that can be of additional assistance.

Many of the materials listed on our resource pages (click links on the left side of this page) can be received in bulk by calling VSAAC at (203)736-8566 or by e-mail at vsaac@bghealth.org.

Curriculum/Interactive Presentations

Fatal Vision Goggles
"Fatal Vision Goggles," are actual goggles that, when worn, simulate the effects of alcohol and other drugs on vision and coordination.  A variety of activities have been designed to go along with the goggles to effectively demonstrate the dramatic effect of alcohol/substance impairment,  including an exercise in which students try to "walk the line" (a common impairment test utilized by police officers) while wearing the goggles.

pack a day smoker would put in their lungs in one year.

What is Your Drug IQ?
A new interactive CD-ROM that contains interesting and
useful information and quizzes. Facts are given for all drugs from alcohol and tobacco to heroin and the new designer drugs that are becoming increasingly popular with youth.

Mr. Gross Mouth
A model showing the effects of prolonged use of chewing tobacco and cigarettes in the mouth.

Get The Edge
The 'Performance Edge" was designed as a positive way to teach young people about the dangers of drinking and smoking. Rather than asking teenagers to say 'no' to something negative, the program urges them to say 'yes' to peak performance- on the athletic field, in the classroom, and
on the job.

Faces of Addiction
This kit was developed with the help of two nationally recognized organizations that help communities address their substance abuse problems -  Join Together and
Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America.

Media Sharp
A program to help young people critically assess how media normalize, glamorize, and create role models for unhealthy lifestyles and behaviors.

All of the above program materials/curriculums can be obtained by contacting The Valley Substance Abuse Action Council (VSAAC) at (203) 736-8566 or e-mail vsaac@bghealth.org.
