VSAAC Face To Face Campaign

Most of us know the dangers inherent in our technological society, not the least of which is the lack of “face to face” family interaction that it promotes.  Statistics show that children from families who have meals together, and engage in activities together, are less likely to become involved in substance use and related negative behaviors.  The more time we spend together with our children, the better our chances are of raising healthy, happy, substance-free kids!

To help promote family togetherness, VSAAC is launching a new campaign called “Face To Face: Parents, Meet Your Kids - Kids, Meet Your Parents.”  The heart of the Face to Face (or FTF) campaign will be a monthly “day without technology” that will encourage Valley families (on the first Sunday of each month, starting in April 2008) to turn off their computers, refrain from texting and emailing, and instead, spend their time together, engaging in family activities.

To help kick off the initiative, we would like to invite Valley students, alone, or with their families, to voluntarily sign up to participate in the monthly day without technology.  You can obtain a sign-up form at most Valley elementary and middle schools and also by clicking on the link  provided on the left.  Each family that signs up will receive a campaign packet that will include a bumper sticker with campaign logo and various informational materials about the pros/cons of today’s technology, the importance of family time, and general substance (drug/alcohol) updates.

The deadline for sign-up for the FTF “day without technology campaign” is March 31, 2008.  At the end of the sign-up period, a prize will be awarded to the school that has the most families/students who sign up to participate.
